Elender's is a cute global cuisine joint that just opened in Summer of 2022. We've really enjoyed the experience and our past guests highly recommended it. "Excellent burgers and solid vegetarian options".

Douglas Falls is a hidden gem, with a wonderful rail trail down the gorge for an easy hike or bicycling outing. Check out the old coke ovens on the way in. Blackwater Canyon TrailDouglas Falls is a hidden gem, with a wonderful rail trail down the gorge for an easy hike or bicycling outing. Check out the old coke ovens on the way in. The climb to the bottom of the falls is not an improved trail and can be treacherous. On the way in/out make sure to check out the Buxton & Landstreet studios in the old coal company store.
Look off the edge of the Allegheny Plateau at this unique rock feature. Also a great spot for stargazing.

When our dog was hit by a car right outside our house in Canaan Valley, late on a Sunday night, this is where we took him. It's a two hour drive away, but on the way home for us. I hope you never need to use this recommendation.
