A great local ski field to check out in winter only about an hour drive from Otematata. The Ohau Lodge at the base of the mountain is also worth a visit for a great mulled wine

Otematata Wetlands
Loch Laird RoadA really nice peaceful walk. It is within walking/biking distance from Rata Drive
A decent hill walk through trees and then at the top, amazing 360 degree views over the region. On a clear day you can see the top of Aoraki Mount Cook.
Our family loves this walk. The kids (aged between 6 and 11) take a little longer to conquer the uphill, but the views at the top are well worth it.
Benmore Peninsula Track
