The park has hiking trails, a beach on Canopus Lake, and fishing on four ponds and two lakes. Most of the park is situated in northern Putnam County between the Taconic State Parkway and U.S. Route 9.

The trail also cuts straight though the middle of Putnam Valley. A great leg of the trail to join is around the north of Canopus Lake in Clarence Fahnestock State Park.
The main attraction! Lake Oscawana is a 386-acre (1.6 km2) natural lake with a depth that ranges from 25 feet (7.6 m) to 30 feet (9.1 m). The lake is fed by a stream from its north end and it drains through a stream at the middle of its eastern shore that borders our property. Enjoy Lake life at its best.
The area was home to Babe Ruth during the Prohibition years and more recently featured as the "The Sapranos" Adirondack Lake house.
