Evacuated in 1943 so that the British Army could use the area for training purposes, the village soon fell into disrepair. However, the church and school room are still mostly intact, having been carefully restored. You can walk around this ‘ghost village’ that simply stopped in time, and explore inside the church and school, discovering their history, including examples of schoolwork and children’s names still on their pegs. From Tyneham village, you can also take a 20 min walk down to Worbarrow Bay. There are various picnic tables dotted around the car park area and near the history barn. The nearest places to grab a bite to eat are The New Inn in Church Knowle and Clavell’s restaurant in Kimmeridge, which are both around a 10 minute drive from Tyneham.

The Blue Pool Nature Reserve & Tearooms is a unique attraction, a true gem in the heart of beautiful Purbecks. The Blue Pool is famous for its ever-changing colours. Very fine clay in suspension in the water diffracts light in different ways, producing a spectrum of colour, sometimes green, sometimes turquoise. The Pool is surrounded by 25 acres of heath, woodland and gorse interlaced with sandy paths that seem to take you to another world. There is also a Giftshop, Ice cream Parlour, Plant Centre and of course the Tearooms.
