Just beyond this chimney is a local secret....a walking trail by the river that leads to slippery rocks that we slide down. seriously, just a short walk. we take tubes to slide down. so our behinds are protected, but some people just slide in their jeans. you are welcome to borrow our tubes if you decide to go. well worth the drive. take water, picnic, towels, walking shoes, a change of clothes. We dont wear bathing suits, just slide on our clothes....the water feels refreshing and exhilarating after the walk. we are mostly dry by the time we walk back to the car.

This is a 5 star museum in my book. Worth the hour drive from Roanoke. sooo many active things to do for kids and adults and its all inside. You can climb from floor to floor or just take the stairs. There's a little play farm for the kids, also the James River, sooo many things to do. My favorite place to go with kids for a day trip.

Another fun day trip....Tour an old secret bunker. It was supposed to be for the President and Congress but someone told the secret....so now it is open to the public.
