In passato i clienti portavano con se il pane dal loro forno preferito (o cotto in casa) e poi ordinavano da mangiare in osteria. 5 minuti a piedi dalla struttura.

the old town of Altamura (centro storico) is one of the biggest in Puglia. Not gentrified (yet) unlike Matera, offers a pure original experience of a real southern italian lifestyle. Go on the main square (Piazza Duomo), enjoy the crowd, try a Padre Peppe or icecream and get lost in the old town. Corso Federico II is our main street cutting the old town in 2 halfs from Porta Matera (old entrance facing Matera) all the way down to Porta Bari (still existing facing Bari) and crossing Piazza Duomo. Do like locals do ... just go back and forth the Corso and enjoy the athmosphere.

Old historical bar famous for Padre Peppe ... a liquor invented by a priest (father Peppe indeed) and made with nuts and local herbs. Enjoy the ambience, the furniture (original) and the pastry (gorgeous). Try " Sospiri" with some chocolates made with Padre Peppe and of course a shot of Padre Peppe. Ask for the owner Saverio and tell him you are a friend of Domenico and Giacomone ... not sure he will give you a discount but for sure he will give you a big smile ;-)

one of the oldest bakery in town (15th century or so) ... not sure this is true but the place is a traditional shop that is open normally just in the morning and close when the bread is over. Try the small focacce (not the best in town but really cheap). 3 min walking distance from Malacarne House

one of the oldest bakery in town, very touristic and expensive (for local standards). Still a nice place with cool tables in the small square. Ask the boss to show you the wooden oven ... for what you are paying is the minimum he can do.

Arrival and parking instructions
Malacarne House is located in the old town (Centro Storico) that is NOT ACCESSIBLE via car.
Nevertheless you can easily park on the outskirt of the Old Town (0,8 € per hour 8:00 or 9:00- 13:00 and 15:00-19:00 hrs then is free). Check the timetable at the columns on the street and make sure you have some coins with you.
If you look around in the secondary roads you can also find a free parking.
Make sure you are on the right side of the city. Just arrive here with the car and search for a parking. The house is 5 min. away by walk.
