Gorran Haven is a pleasant sandy beach just in front of the village. It is fairly sheltered, sitting in the lee of the 400ft high Dodman point just to the west. Along with all the facilities of the village close to hand this makes for a great family beach.

In The Jungle experience, intimate pathways edged with sub-tropical plantings have been created through the valley and its watercourses, and a rope bridge now extends across it all; offering a whole new perspective. This exuberant garden hosts a riot of luxuriant foliage, bamboo tunnels, and gigantic rhubarb and bananas, drawing the imagination on a journey far from our temperate shores.
The Giant’s Head, Mud Maid and Grey Lady all wait to be discovered along the Woodland Walk to delightful bird song. This sheltered path comes to life for children and adults alike as the woodland sculptures reveal themselves, emerging gently from the undergrowth, in a beautiful natural landscape.
A unique palette of heritage flavours are incorporated within the daily lunch menu in the Heligan Kitchen. The licensed Heligan Tearoom provides a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere for morning coffee, Cornish cream teas and hearty, home-cooked meals. Whilst the Heligan Shop offers quality items, many of which have been designed, made, written or grown by staff on-site, providing an exclusive memento of a visit to the Lost Gardens.

Eden Project
It would be difficult to make a list of unmissable things to see and do in Cornwall without including the Eden Project. Pretty much everything that can be said about this unique attraction already has; some have even gone so far as to describe it as the "Eighth Wonder of the World".
The Eden Project can be thought of as two enormous greenhouses set in a landscaped quarry. Within the greenhouses (or biomes as they are known) are two distinct environments; one a tropical rainforest and the other a Mediterranean climate. You can read all about these elsewhere, I'm just going to emphasise what a great day out the Eden Project offers. To be honest the last couple of times we have been the biomes have more of an after thought. It's just a nice place to spend some time, and they put on some great activities.

Wandering through the original part of the garden large trunks and branches shrubs give a feel of maturity and discovery as you happen across various object d'art. In stark contrast you eventually break through to open park land, lake and mature oaks reminiscent of Capability Brown's English landscape style. Then behind you lies the Japanese garden complete with authentic tea pavilion, but pay attention when you take the bridge over the lake, or there will be a splash!
In addition to Rhododendrons, Magnolias and Camellias so familiar in Cornish gardens there are Mediterranean and Southern-hemisphere plants grown for all year round interest. There are a host of specialist planting areas including herbaceous borders, a fernery, a woodland walk, an arboretum, shrubberies and water gardens. The water features include a large wildlife pond, an ornamental pond with cascades, a lake with an island (home for ducks, black swans and water fowl) and marsh gardens. This is a garden for all seasons and the winter garden is host for a range of plants offering flower, leaf and stem colour in the darker months. Plans are afoot to extend the snowdrop collection into this garden and increase the number of Christmas Roses, as and when maturing shrub provide sufficient shade.
No garden visit is complete without rounding it off with "A nice cup of tea" and this is available in the courtyard tearooms. As a special reminder of your visit the nursery offers a range of rare and interesting plants. All in all this is a garden worthy of a visit at any time of the year.

In recent years, St Mawes has become a popular tourist destination with good restaurants, attractive shops and a number of galleries.
Perfectly preserved coastal fortress built by Henry VIII. In partnership with its twin, Pendennis, it guards the entrance of the Fal Estuary.
Facilities include toilets and a shop which serves drinks and ice creams. There is level access to the castle for wheelchair users, but access to the upper floors is difficult for the disabled. Parking is available close to the entrance. St Mawes Castle is open daily throughout the year, apart from at Christmas and New Year.

You will often here that a place has remained unchanged for over a hundred years, but this really is the case with Charlestown. As a result the harbour here has become something of a staple filming location for period dramas.
Coming equipped with its own fleet of sailing ships the little harbour has featured in numerous films and TV series over the decades, including, of course, Poldark. Charlestown actually featured in both the original 1970s series and the recent Poldark TV adaptation.
Overlooking the harbour are a selection of spots to grab some food or a drink. While to either side are some stretches of shingle beach - not the best around but often queit and good for snorkelling.

In a valley, just along the coast between Gorran Haven and Mevagissey is the little village of Portmellon. The beach here is flanked by rocks to either side but is itself sandy. At low tide there is a good expanse of flat sand, however, this all but disappears as the tide comes in.
The Paddle Shed offers paddle board and Kayak hire.

Its harbour is flanked by fourteenth century blockhouses, one in Fowey and one on the opposite side of the river in Polruan, from which chains were once suspended to close the harbour mouth. Polruan blockhouse may be visited on foot. There is a good view from there of the remains of Fowey blockhouse.
There are frequent ferries to Polruan, an interesting village with cottages clinging to the hillside. It is worth crossing to see the panoramic views from the top of the hill. In addition, a car ferry crosses the river to Bodinnick. The ferry house here was originally the du Maurier family holiday home and later the home of Angela du Maurier, Daphne’s sister and a lesser known novelist.

In the indoor garden railway, visitors can learn how to transform their own gardens to run large scale trains, whilst having a go at driving the trains. In addition, there are static displays showing hundreds of locomotives and other models. The shop stocks a wide range of models for the enthusiast.
Both the shop and exhibition have access for wheelchairs. The site is close to the harbour in Mevagissey. It is open daily from Easter until the end of October each year and the exhibition is also open at weekends and during school holidays in the winter.

The Visitor Centre and Shop are open from Monday to Friday and guided tours of the Brewery take place by prior arrangement. The brewery is situated on Trevarthian Road, opposite the St Austell College and there is a large visitors' car park.

The Visitor Centre and Shop are open from Monday to Friday and guided tours of the Brewery take place by prior arrangement. The brewery is situated on Trevarthian Road, opposite the St Austell College and there is a large visitors' car park.
