Westport is a beautiful village nestled between Highway 7 and Kingston, about 35 minutes north of the limestone city. The Rideau Canal is living history. It is the oldest continuously operated canal in North America and the locks are operated today much as they were when first opened in 1832. Each lock is unique and the lock staff are always ready to offer the visitor any assistance they can.
Lower Brewers, also known as Washburn, is a peaceful lock with a wooden swing bridge. An attraction for those passing through in September and October are the lovely apples at the nearby apple orchard within easy walking distance (ask the locksmaster).

This swimming hole is nestled in the trees at the end of Wellington Street. Visitors can park at the base of the road and walk down the pathway to the beach.
