Spire, added in 1320, is the tallest in England; home to the Magna Carta; houses one of the oldest working clocks in the world, dating from 1386.

It consists of an outer ring of standing stones, each around 13 feet (4.0 m) high, seven feet (2.1 m) wide, topped by connecting horizontal lintel stones. Inside is a ring of smaller bluestones. The monument is oriented towards the sunrise on the summer solstice.
The site has accessible toilets, a restaurant to eat and staff for help. It is easily accessible from Wheelright Cottage by rail and bus - train from West Dean to Salisbury Station (one stop) where a direct bus service takes visitors to Stomehenge.

In 1983 the Government decided to sell much woodland owned by the FC, including Bentley Wood. A local resident, Lady Ann Colman, formed a trust to purchase Bentley Wood for the public, which was achieved in 1984.
