Lots of options here. Park by the lake and enjoy the mile walk. Level, but not paved. You can also find a bench to enjoy the views. Can you spot Cone Manor?
Many additional hikes from this loop. One being, walking to Cone Manor. It is almost a 4 mile loop.
Hint: You can drive right to the Manor off of The Parkway. The Manor is getting a facelift summer of 2021.

Bass Lake Trail
1 Bass Lake DrLots of options here. Park by the lake and enjoy the mile walk. Level, but not paved. You can also find a bench to enjoy the views. Can you spot Cone Manor?
Many additional hikes from this loop. One being, walking to Cone Manor. It is almost a 4 mile loop.
Hint: You can drive right to the Manor off of The Parkway. The Manor is getting a facelift summer of 2021.
We go all the way to the top and park. Walk up the steps (elevator in the gift shop) and cross the Mile High Bridge. The brave that wore hiking shoes, can scramble across rocks to get the best views.
Hint: Use the staircase INSIDE the building where the elevator is located. On the 2nd floor is a room with a small amount of history about the local area including The Blue Ridge Parkway.
Now go to the 1st level gift shop for restroom and souvenirs.
Many hikes begin at this parking lot. You could spend 30 minutes to 2 hours at this upper parking lot.
Now drive down the mountain. The next parking area has some hikes. Sometimes you must park here and walk the trail to the Upper Lot.
Now drive to the Nature Center. Walk the small zoo. My favs are the bears and otters.
In the Nature Center, you can grab snacks, restroom and another gift shop.
There are many places going up and down the mountain for a picnic and/or enjoy the views.
It can be crowded.

There are great views on this hike and it will not feel crowded. There is also a little cemetery of the family that owned the estate.
Hint: Once past the cemetery, there is an open meadow and there are fabulous views to enjoy. If weary, turn around. I have gone to the top fire tower and it is great if you have time.
