In the Winter months, before you leave home, check the Washington State Department of Transportation website (or app) for travel advisories and road conditions in the mountain passes. Snow and ice do occasionally shut down major roads until the plows can catch up. And be sure to carry chains if you aren't 4WD/AWD!
