If you have a day (and a recovery day) to do this it is well worth the hike. High level of difficulty to get to the top but there are also other shorter walks you can do if not in your timeframe or abilities to get to the very top.

Awesome walks and even a small zoo in the middle of the park. Great for kids and families. During the Summer months there is a free festival of lights that are stunning and one of the best things to see in New Plymouth during those months.
