Sightseeing
There are several hiking trails available at the Fernkloof Nature Reserve but the route to the Assegaaibos waterfall is one the most popular and absolutely beautiful. The route is fairly easy and as the vegetation changes from small fynbos to being surrounded by the forest. At the waterfall you just can't help being amazed by the natural beauty around you. After reaching the waterfall, you can take the Lemoenkop route back which will give you a great view of Hermanus.

The trip will make its way out to the famous Dyer Islands and Shark Alley. The islands are covered in seals and penguins, the sharks are migratory and will be in this area for food.

From here, head further along Rotary Way to get amazing views of the Klein River Valley, the lagoon, the golf course and, of course, the ocean. When the whales come to visit this part of the South African coastline every year, they can be seen lobtailing and spraying massive mists into the air as they explore these waters. Seeing the whales from these heights is, undoubtedly, one of the major highlights for those exploring Rotary Way.

Local artist Terry Kobus is known for exquisite paintings of South Africa’s indigenous Nguni Cattle. Armed with a camera and his artists sketchbook he rides a mountain bike into remote rural areas where these unique indigenous cattle can be found.
Terry works in oil and on wood and canvas to capture the magic of the grasslands of Zululand, the Drakensberg and the Transkei wild coast. He has exhibited internationally and has a number of works featured in international collections. If you wander down Hermanus’s main street you will find him in his Originals Gallery. He has a working studio there where you can see him at work.
