Hiking

There is a trail around the Spring (which is 7th largest in MO) that is about .3 mile. The overlook trail is steeper and closer to a mile. My recommendation is to do this as early in morning or close to sunset as possible. In the morning it is beautiful to see fog lifting from the river valley. Also it is much less busy during the week. If you want a great overlook but don't want to hike that much, just drive a bit father, past the park on 106 and you will go up the hill . On each side of highway there are places to pull off and take pictures , etc. This is so close to house and very easy to access.

This is a beautiful little hdden trail that is an easy hike but still nice exercise. We love it and use often. There is seldom anyone else there. It is easy to park at and is circular trail. It is beautiful in the fall. Also gorgeous after rains.

This is not an official hike or trail. It is a county road, we love it to ride bikes, run or walk on because it is relatively flat. It is a great place to enjoy a variety of falling leaves and beautiful river bottom botany. From the house, you drive across 106 to the gravel road. Go down the gravel road until you reach the bottom of the hill and can park in the center if you want to walk or run, there is a nice mile and a half before the incline starts. Or, you can walk to the left and go to the Jacks Fork River, about 1/2 a mile, you can drive closer to river but depends on vehicle. Sometimes people may be camping but often there is no one there. It is owned by the National Park Service, so is open to all. * Called Old Trail Ride because this is one of the locations the Cross Country Trail Rides were years ago. Remember to wear orange if walking in deer season. :)
