The museum was officially opened by Apollo 11 astronaut, Buzz Aldrin, in June 2012. The museum celebrates the role the Carnarvon Tracking Station played in the manned space program in the 1960s and 1970s. The OTC dish relayed the first steps of man on the moon to Perth television station.
