There are also a few nice cafés in the park. My favourite being the iconic 'Blauwe Theehuis' (Blue Teahouse). A 1930s modernist building - an iconic 'flying saucer' shaped building in the middle of the park. It has a huge terrace and is a nice place to grab a coffee or beer in the park. On weekends the cosy upstairs level is open and offers a nice view and usually less lineups at the bar.

Harring Food stall ("Haringhandel Kees Tol")
The Dutch are famous for loving raw herring. If raw fishy bites are your thing or you want to be adventurous and try a Dutch delicacy, I'm told that this nondescript food stand that has been run by the same couple for many many decades has some of the best raw herring in town.
They are located on the little square just before the bridge. (Note: their hours are little unpredictable).

The most important park in the city is just a few blocks away from the apartment.
On a sunny day, it feels like the whole city is out enjoying themselves in the park. Weather-permitting, a great place to have a picnic, bbq, go for jog or a relaxing meander.

De Hallen is an old tram depot that's been converted into a trendy hub of activity. Including a large independent movie theatre, a food hall, a library and some boutique stores. They also have a market of local goods on many weekends.
