Sightseeing
A lovely local woodland walk,which is just a short drive from our cottage.Perfect for kids as there as many wooden animal sculptures to find on your way round.
After leaving the village,turn right at the top of round heading towards loch fleet and onto Golspie.Take the next left turn up through Fourpenny to Skelbo street,go straight following the line of houses and round a sharp corner.Skelbo woods is on you right before you come to the main road(a9)

As you leave Golspie heading north your turn off at the Sutherland Stone building,a short drive down the side takes you to the the car park

You can include a stop here as part of a circular drive from the cottage.
Leaving Embo head north,turning right at the top juction you head for Golpie passing Loch Fleet which is a National Nature Reserve.Following the road north to the mound,turn off left for Rogart and follow the road to Lairg(the cross roads to the north/north west)head south on the A836 and turn right onto the A839 keep left onto the B864,its 3.8 miles to Falls of Shin.
There you will also find Mac and Wild Cafe/Resturant with a lovely kids play area and a nice woodland walk.
Leaving follow the road to Invershin and taking the road to Bonar bridge you will take in the views of Carbisdale Castle on the south side of the River.
When you reach Bonar Bridge you have the choice to head back towards Dornoch or south over the bridge to Ardgay which takes you Edderton and back to the Dornoch Bridge.Or if you fancy a longer drive,take a right up over Struie Hill where the view point takes in spectacular Views across the Dornoch firth

If your feeling energetic a climb to the Monument at the top is well worth it on a sunny clear day as the views are spectacular.

why not make it a whole day out taking in the views and a few historic stops on the way.The road its self can be an experience with the berridale brea's.Which is a perfect pit stop for coffee cake or lunch at the River Bothy Cafe
