Only 0.8 miles from the house, this trailhead gives you access to endless opportunities of trails- it's only 10 miles to the Tahoe Rim Trail, and I've taken it 40 miles from the house to Diamond Peak in Incline Village. You can also go from the house to Tahoe City, all on trail, for a 26 mile run or mountain bike ride.

Historic Summit Tunnel
Sugar Bowl RoadBring a flashlight or headlamp (or borrow one from me) to explore the old train tunnels on Donner Pass. Super fun for all ages. Short hike through the first tunnel to get spectacular views of the Donner Pass and lake.
Beautiful and mellow hike along the Truckee River. There is also a trailhead in Hirschdale. There is some freeway noise but it's easy to block it out with the views.

Gorgeous hike - take I-80 up to the Boreal/Castle Peak exit. In the winter, you can borrow my snowshoes. About 3 miles to the top. Very challenging, especially the last mile.

outdoor ice rink in Northstar Village. Free bus from downtown Truckee (otherwise parking is expensive during the day at Northstar). On the weekends, they sometimes have live music. Fun to go at night - kids love it. Skating is free but skate rentals are kind of pricey if you don't have your own - $20.
