This restaurant is the best restaurant in the area. The old stone building houses an old wine press and has a very charming, romantic atmosphere. The owners are a husband and wife team, she cooks and he works the dining room. They have owned the restaurant for over 30 years. The menu has some classic Spanish dishes, but it also changes seasonally with produce coming from local, organic farms. The wine list is small, but has some unusual, thoughtful selections. Added bonus-Séamus works here.

When visiting the old Roman part of Tui, this is a great spot for a delicious cappuccino and slice of Santiago cake. It is also an albergue for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, so there's always interesting conversation with people from all different parts of the world.

If you're not familiar with Furanchos, and would like to visit one, this is the one you want to visit. A Furancho is like a "pop up" restaurant. They are only open for 3 months out of the year. They were initially started as a way for farmers to sell the excess house wine that they produce. They also sell food, but everything must come from their farm and be produced by them, so the menus are usually very small and meat centered. The salumi plate here is incredible. The rest of the food is very limited. They often have traditional music, but you never know when it will happen, people just show up and play. This place is charming and rustic.

Sightseeing

This is a beautiful hike up the old stone grain mills. It could be a bit challenging for those not used to hiking or with small children, but if you're up for a good hike with panoramic views out to the Atlantic Ocean, it doesn't get much better than this. It can be hot in the summer, so go early and don't forget to bring sunscreen and water.

Dating back to the 12th century, this is truly worth a visit. Go on a Sunday for mass then take a walk on a portion of the Camino de Santiage. Afterwards, relax with a beer at Casa Henriqueta.

Castro de Santa Trega is a Galician fort and archaeological site located on the hillsides of Mount Santa Trega. The site is strategically located overlooking the mouth of the river Miño. Belonging to the Castro culture, it is the most emblematic and visited Galician fort. In 1931, it was declared a National Historical and Artistic Monument (‘Monumento Histórico Artístico Nacional’)and was also considered a Place of Cultural Interest (‘Bien de Interés Cultural’: BIC). Shortly after the beginning of the romanization of Galicia in 100 BC, the site began its occupation which lasted until 100 AD. There are great views and lovely little walks from the area. After your visit, head down to the Port in A Guarda for an ice cream and a walk around the harbor.

This is a great place to take a long, peaceful walk. You can either walk on the Spanish side of the river, or cross the bridge and walk on the Portuguese side. The Portuguese side tends to be more crowded. Either way, there are spectacular views.

Great 3km walk around this ancient fort with beautiful views. Baiona is about a 1/2 hour drive, over the hill, from the house. The old part of town is charming and worth a walk around.

Shopping

This is a charming little town with not much going on except Saturdays when there is a huge market. There are small farmers in the middle of the market who bring produce, house cured meats and eggs from their homes. The prices and quality are better than the supermarket. There are also stalls selling cheap goods, like socks, clothing, and kitchen supplies. You can get really nice, cotton bed sheets and towels for a good price.

Bodegas/Wineries

Santiago Ruiz was universally recognized as the Father of Albariño. Wine was made in his family since the late 19th century and he continued the tradition. The Albariño and O Rosal that they produce is delicious. You can book a tour of the winery online, it is highly recommended.

Beautiful winery with a lovely little tasting room and informative tours. They are one of the few wineries in the area that are set up for wine tourism and they are open many hours when others are not. The wines are very good and worth a try.
