Fontarrabie is a village in the Gipuzkoa province located on the left bank of the Bidasoa estuary which separates France from Spain. This beautiful fortified village situated in a beautiful natural environment is well worth a small visit. A fishing town of about 16,000 inhabitants, it bears the Spanish name of Fuenterrabía or Hondarribia in Basque, which means « sandy crossing ». Built on a rocky promontory which dominates the Bidassoa estuary in front of France, it has real pearls of medieval architecture, including a castle of Charles Quint which today houses a magnificent parador. Fontarrabie is a popular tourist destination for Spanish people from Basque Country and the surrounding area, especially San Sebastian, who often spend a pleasant day there at the weekend. And that's not surprising!

Guethary is through its architecture a typically Basque village. Faithful to its past as a former whaling port, it remains turned towards the « Golf de Gascogne » with its small port, its world famous surf spots, its sea restaurants and its family beaches. A small village of 1350 inhabitants of 1 on 1.4 km, it is located at the crossroads of fast means of transport - plane, train, motorway, while remaining a green village of artists crossed by winding roads. Classified as a Remarkable Heritage Site (SPR), it maintains the Basque tradition in all areas: preservation of architectural values, pelota and surfing, Basque dances and songs, classical music in its sixteenth-century church jewel, traditional festivals throughout the year.

An elegant seaside resort in south-west France, Biarritz was once the favourite holiday resort of the nobility. Today it is the European capital of surfing. Taken by storm all summer long, it is experiencing a real tourist boom. In Biarritz, you won't find the luxury and glitter of the French Riviera, but you'll come across chic and well-off holidaymakers as well as surfers in flip-flops, and you'll hear French, Spanish and Basque spoken. The wide range is the real attraction of the city. Just behind it, visit the « casino Art Déco restoré », and walk randomly through the streets to the old port, west of the city.

For children, the Hendaye beach offers wide open spaces and calm water (which reaches 23 degrees in summer): an ideal choice for idleness with the whole tribe! A Mickey Club welcomes children for activities throughout the summer. On Wednesdays during the summer, a sandcastle competition is organised in Hendaye. The walk along the waterfront is also very pleasant as it has just been redesigned: the traffic is one-sided and gives way to a wide lane for pedestrians and bicycles. A small train also offers a visit of the bay and the town center. Many surf schools are waiting for you!!!

The best tapas in Spain are in San Sebastian (Old town) Saint Sebastien, officially Donostia in Basque and San Sebastián in Spanish, is a city in northern Spain, capital of the Gipuzkoa province in the Basque Autonomous Community. It's the seat of « diocese de Saint Sebastien » and of the Maritime Province of Saint Sebastien. Bathed by the waters of the Cantabrian Sea, at the mouth of the River Urumea, it owes much of its fame to its bay, the Bay of La Concha, framed between two rocky eminences, the Igeldo and Urgull mountains, real natural balconies from which a large part of the city, the ocean and the surrounding hilly countryside can be seen. The city counts on the presence of numerous monuments (cathédrale du Bon Pasteur, basilique Sainte-Marie du Chœur, palais de Miramar, pont María Cristina, arènes d'Atocha, place de la Constitution et rues pittoresques du centre historique), museums (Science Museum, whale hunting, Chillida-Leku museum) and an aquarium. The Kursaal Palace, built in 1998, is characteristic of contemporary architecture.

Located in the old port of San Sebastián, the aquarium occupies a 1928 building where more than 200 marine species are on display. In addition to the « aquarium » section, there is an exhibition on the maritime history of the region, with a focus on fishing, Basque whales and maritime trade. Richly illustrated with paintings and models, this section also care about the creation of the Gipuzkoa Oceanography Society, the founding entity of the aquarium, which was one of the pioneers of oceanographic research in Spain. The aquarium has around 30 basins where dozens of marine species from the Atlantic Ocean and tropical seas are represented. The highlight of this visit is its immense transparent tunnel, 36 metres long, allowing a 360° view of some forty marine species, including sharks, turtles, rays and moray eels. The guided tour in French will teach you, for example, that 10% of the water in the aquarium is renewed daily through sea water, that in one year the fish consume 6,700 kg of food and requires 3 hours a day to clean the acrylic tunnel. If you are more intrepid, a night activity will allow you to sleep inside the aquarium! The site also has an auditorium as well as a postcard and memory shop. Above the building, the Bokado restaurant serves refined cuisine with beautiful views of the Concha River.
