I want to share some of our favorite local places because these restaurants give you a real taste of Louisiana cuisine at affordable prices. If you visit another place and would like to add on the information here, please let me know.
Kenney is a very casual, order-at-the-window seafood restaurant. I have sent many guests their way when crawfish is in season and they all have loved it and recommended it to others. They also have good Poboy sandwiches and seafood platters. All are excellent.

Here you will find delicious poboys and fresh made onion rings. Poboys are a New Orleans treasure and the roast beef is a classic. You will need a lot of napkins as that delicious gravy runs down your hands!This is a place for just a few tables and you have to catch them during the week as they are closed on weekends.

1061 Robert BlvdThis is a great place for breakfast. They have custom made omelettes, waffles, and the usual bacon, eggs, and grits. Sunday brunch offers dishes such as eggs benefict. The ribeye poboy was featured on Diners Dives and Drive-ins. Very casual place with good service and value.

I love their pecan crusted catfish and the steak labouchere. Don't forget to order the warm bread pudding or cheesecake for dessert. KY's Olde Towne Bicycle Shop
2267 Carey StOK why is located in the heart of old town Slidell. They serve up really good Poboys, daily specials and great salads. Be sure to try the house salad with their artichoke dressing. It is divine. The building was once an actual bicycle repair shop and is decorated with old bikes. A fun place to grab a bite

Louisiana's only rails-to-trails conversion, the 31-mile Trace winds through the Northshore, a paved ribbon connecting five communities interspersed with lovely green space. The path offers all who ride, walk or even rollerblade it, a way to experience both the towns and the natural beauty that so enhances the quality of life on the Northshore.
Originally a corridor for the Illinois Central Railroad, the Trace now is an earth-friendly hike and bike trail stretching from downtown Covington, through Abita Springs, Mandeville, and Lacombe and ending in Slidell.

Each year, 250,000 nature lovers visit the beautiful habitat and take the 90-minute ride in a covered, open-air wagon to see winged, striped and horned creatures move freely on the manicured grounds. The tour is part petting zoo, part biology lecture, part entertainment and a lot of fun.
Throughout the slow ride (so you can visit all the animals!), visitors learn about the ecology of wildlife, the different personalities of many of the animals and the importance of preserving these precious creatures. In one area, more than a dozen kangaroos hop around or sit quietly under the shade of a large tree. There are also families of giraffes, herds of American bison, Texas longhorns, llamas and many other rare animals who live peacefully at this Louisiana haven. In many cases, nearly extinct animals thrive at Global Wildlife, making an impact on the species. In 1989, with only 16 left in the world, the Father David Deer, a native of mainland China had almost disappeared. Matherne and his staff obtained five of these extremely rare deer and brought them to their refuge. Now, visitors can view 200 of the Father David Deer as they soak in a nearby pond, or munch on the grass as the safari wagon rides by.

Just three miles from the quaint Northshore town of Mandeville is Fontainebleau State Park, a convenient and scenic getaway with some truly spectacular kayaking. It also happens to be a short drive from New Orleans, which means that within an hour after leaving the French Quarter, you can be paddling pristine streams full of native fishes and cypress trees. Fontainebleau is a park with a past. It was once the site of a large sugar mill built under the direction of Creole planter and senator Bernard de Marigny in 1829. Marigny’s plantation fell into disrepair long ago, but today you can tour the brick structures that remain. You’ll also learn more about the illustrious man himself inside the park’s visitor center, where handmade tools and furniture are on display. Outside the visitor center you’ll find a pier stretching over enormous Lake Pontchartrain, a prime spot for sunset-watching. A man-made beach offers sunbathers a chance to catch some rays, and for younger visitors, a water playground is open season. Nature trails amidst the Cypress and Oak trees are captivating.There is a pier for fishing.Go for a relaxing day with the beauty of nature.
