The nearest gallery to the flat. Packed with interest in terms of biography in art. Aside from that the building itself is an absolute star. Short walk then across St Andrews Square to the Scottish National Gallery. 10/15 minute bus ride depending on traffic or 25/30 minute walk but uphill.

Situated in the University quarter of the old town definitely a bus ride uphill (15 minutes) but a nice stroll back downhill taking in the sights, the odd pub or cafe depending on your preference. Anything and everything about Scotland and its history. Don’t miss the top floor viewing gallery( various unfathomable lifts add to the fun) for one of the best panoramas of Edinburgh. Good cafe and lots of others nearby. If you are here in summer you can easily buy the makings of a picnic (there’s a Neals Yard on Simpson Loan for fabulous bread) and join the students on the nearby Meadows. Don’t fall asleep and get sunburned.

In my view as an art lover all the Scottish galleries make an effort to be accessible to all and they are the least stuffy of all British galleries. Towered over by the Castle the gallery is the prominent building on the garden side of Princes Street. Not to be missed for the breadth of content. If you like walking its walkable from the flat or otherwise a 15 minute bus ride from the Leith Walk bus stop opposite Casa Amiga. As ever great cafe but as its in town lots of alternatives nearby. Spend an hour to a week in here. It’s content really is that good! My favourite the Van Gogh’s

My favourite of all the Scottish Galleries. But then I am a modern art fan. There are two galleries here No 1 and No 2 literally opposite each other across a road you could easily spend a full day in each of them. Located in Edinburgh’s West End there is a gallery link bus from the national gallery on Princes Street( £1 charge each way). From the Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore sculpture in the garden setting to the Lichtenstein in the gallery this setting keeps on giving. Inspired curation provides a host of specialist exhibitions throughout the year. Currently a Paula Rego exhibition (spring 2020). You cant see everything on a short trip to Edinburgh but if you love art this is a must. Great cafe which is just as well as a bit of a walk to alternatives.
