This castle, home of the Pakenham family since the 17th century, was later transformed into a romantic, gothic revival castle. It is one of the largest castles in Ireland, surrounded by romantic woodlands and walled gardens, laid out in the early 19th century and recently extended and replanted. The pleasure grounds include a grotto and two ornamental lakes.

Mullaghmeen located approximately 8km west of Oldcastle, Co Meath is an isolated area of forest rising above the farm land of north Westmeath. Mullaghmeen Forest is the largest planted beech forest in Ireland. Along with beech, Mullaghmeen also has Sitka spruce, Scots pine and noble fir and a very interesting native tree collection.
This 1,000 acre forest offers picnickers a shady haven in which to feast and provides the more energetic with scenic walks of varying length. The Red Trail takes you to the summit of Mullaghmeen and provides magnificent views north across Lough Sheelin and into the neighbouring county of Cavan.

Pony trekking, cross country and show-jumping arrangements can be made at the Equestrian Centre which will meet all your horse related needs. It is possible to stable horses there if required.

Point to Point events are very popular among local horse racing followers in the area. Crover house offers a really nice menu if you just want to get something quick and you don't want to cook. Really nice staff and you can enjoy a few lovely pints while you look out over the lake shore. Stunning views.

The Forge Restaurant near Carnaross in County Meath gets great reviews for its food. Its about 30 minutes away. You will have to look them up on tripadvisor as we can't get AIrBnb to to locate it. But it is worth it.
