Extending over 4.5 km, of which 2 are underground, the canal has linked the Port de l’Arsenal to the La Villette canal basin since 1825. Not surprisingly, serenades by the water and supper under the stars have become an institution here, as have brunches, delightful retro bistros and colourful eateries on both sides of the canal banks.

To relax, take a break or chat with friends, armchairs, chairs and tables are placed throughout the square. With new developments, the Place regains its popular, friendly and festive character. The "Monument à la République" is a monumental statue rising in the centre of the square, pointing upwards to overlook citizen events. The square is the ideal venue for night owls attending countless entertainment venues nearby such as bars, concert halls, nightclubs and theatres.
