The Fosse Dionne is a karst spring located in downtown Tonnerre. It is remarkable because of its outflow (reportedly at least 100 litres per second on average). Its presence is at the center of the creation story of Tonnerre. An elaborate wash basin was built around the spring in the 18th century. A small room next to the Fosse shows a map of the underground caves, in which a lot of divers lost their life trying to explore it.

Auxerre is the fourth-largest city in Burgundy. In 1995 Auxerre was named "Town of Art and History". https://www.ot-auxerre.fr/en/ Main sights: - Cathedral of St. Étienne (11th–16th centuries). In Gothic style, it is renowned for its three doorways with remarkable bas-reliefs. The stained glass windows in the choir and the apsidal chapel are among the finest in France. The 11th century crypt houses the remains of the former Romanesque cathedral. - Abbey of Saint-Germain, existing from the ninth century. The crypt has some of the most ancient mural paintings in France, and houses the tomb of the bishops of Auxerre. Also interesting are the chapter room (12th century), the cellar (14th century) and the cloister (seventeenth century). - The Clock tower, located in the Old Town - The church of St. Pierre en Vallée (17th–18th centuries), established over a 6th-century abbey. In the style of late Gothic architecture, it has a tower similar to that of the cathedral. Portions of the decorations and inner chapels were financed by local winegrowers. - Church of St. Eusèbe, founded in the 7th century. The nave was rebuilt in the 13th century, while the tower is in Romanesque style.

Built in Burgundy during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, this catle is famous for its beauty and the setting. The walls are of limestone under tall sloping slate roofs à la française, surrounding three sides of a central court with cylindrical towers at its four corners. The château is entirely encircled by its rectilinear moat and approached on axis across a bridge marked by paired obelisks through a gatehouse (illustration) built in 1558, which straddles the low balustrade and projects forward into the moat. The perfect symmetry of the cour d'honneur is part of Tanlay's serene charm. https://www.chateaudetanlay.fr/welcome/

The caves of Arcy-sur-Cure contain archaeological artefacts, from the Mousterian to Gallo-Roman times. otre-Dame de Reims is one of Europe's most important Gothic structures. A World Heritage site, the 13th century cathedral has characteristics all its own, in particular its lighting, statuary and unity of style. Notre-Dame boasts an exceptionally rich statuary. The cathedral is adorned with 2,303 statues, including the famous Smiling Angel, whose jovial expression reflects the Champagne School of the 13th century. Located in the heart of the city, the cathedral's towers rise above the rooftops of Reims to a height of 81 m. The nave, whose triple-level design is characteristic of the period in which it was built, has a vaulted ceiling some 38 m high. The cathedral is almost 150 m long. The cathedral is also remarkable for its luminosity, making it a model of the genre in Gothic Europe. http://www.cathedrale-reims.fr/en/

Avallon, from the top of its granite outcrop, overlooks the Cousin Valley. In this city founded by the Romans, jump back in time. Admire its medieval ramparts, towers and then roam around the old town on its cobbled streets. For a green escape, discover Morvan, its lakes and forests. Also enjoy water sports on the Cure. The Clock Tower (XVth century) opens the doors to the historic district of the city, with its old houses, towers, bastions, watchtowers... and the collegiate church of Saint-Lazare, a witness to the architecture of the twelfth century, its two Romanesque doorways and wavy and fluted spiral columns. https://www.burgundy-tourism.com/node/412360/VILLEBOU0000002Q/detail/avallon-cedex/avallon https://www.france-voyage.com/cities-towns/avallon-35197.htm https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Avallon

Part of Joigny's heritage is to be found at the heart of three extraordinary districts. The 'quartier Saint-Jean' was built around the old surrounding wall of the castle. The castle is the focus of an experimental archaeology project aimed at recreating a 13th-century castle and its environment using period technique, dress, and material. In order to fully investigate the technology required in the past, the project is using only period construction techniques, tools, and costumes. Materials, including wood and stone, are all obtained locally. Jacques Moulin, chief architect for the project, designed the castle according to the architectural model developed during the 12th and 13th centuries by Philip II of France. https://www.guedelon.fr/en/

Château de Saint-Fargeau is a 17th-century, Renaissance château. AWESOME SHOWS AT NIGHT! I highly recommend it! The château was originally a hunting residence in 10th century. This was destroyed in the 15th and a castle was built on its foundations. This castle was itself destroyed by fire and promptly rebuilt in the 17th century, with additions and major improvements made in the 19th and 20th centuries.[1] The Château de Saint-Fargeau has a distinctive design. From above, the château's curtains and towers form an irregular pentagon, the corners of which are formed by six towers of pink brick. Five of the towers are topped with lanterns. The château was designated as a monument historique in 1945 and has been open to the public since. http://www.frenchchateau.net/chateaux-of-bourgogne/chateau-de-saint-fargeau.html https://www.chateau-de-st-fargeau.com/spectacle-historique/ https://www.guedelon.fr/en/saint-fargeau-castle_88.html

Beaune is the wine capital of Burgundy in the Côte d'Or department in eastern France. The town is surrounded by some of the world's most famous wine villages, while the facilities and cellars of many producers, large and small, are situated in the historic center of Beaune itself, as they have been since Roman times. With a rich historical and architectural heritage, Beaune is considered the "Capital of Burgundy wines". It is an ancient and historic town on a plain by the hills of the Côte d'Or, with features remaining from the pre-Roman and Roman eras, through the medieval and renaissance periods. Beaune is a walled city, with about half of the battlements, ramparts, and the moat, having survived in good condition. The central "old town" or "vieille ville" is extensive. Historically Beaune is intimately connected with the Dukes of Burgundy. Landmarks in Beaune include the old market (les Halles), the 15th-century Hospices, the Beffroi (clock tower), and the collegiate church of Notre Dame. Beaune is the main center for the "Burgundian tile" polychrome renaissance roofing style of the region. https://www.beaune-tourism.com/things-do/wine-related-activities
