Great, fresh food cooked in wood-fired brick ovens. A wine list second to none in the region. Try the Mushroom Cobler appetizer - fantastic! It's a 5 minute walk from the Apartment. Make a reservation! It is always full up. They also have a wine bar just next door for a nice drink & desserts!

If you love trying "local" beverages when travelling, this is the place for great Humboldt County wines & ciders. The owner/winemaker/cider maker, Pat is an Arcata native. Her North Story wines are made from grapes grown on Humboldt and Mendocino vineyards. The ciders are made from local orchard fruits. Both her wines and ciders are outstanding and winning critical acclaim! The bistro is one block off the Arcata plaza and serves wonderful local bites that pair superbly with her ciders and wines. By appointment, private tastings can be arranged.

A great place right in town to get a taste of the magnificent redwoods of Northern California. Nice picnic areas, easy forest trails, a wonderful duck pond (kids love feeding the ducks, and the upcoming treetop skywalk. And the Sequoia Park Zoo is located in the park

While small by national standards, the Sequoia Park Zoo has it's charms. It focuses on indigenous species with a few "exotics" like the Red Panda. Plenty of children interaction spaces and a great afternoon for the whole family.

A terrific place to bird watch and see spectacular Humboldt Bay sunsets. It's 6 miles north of Eureka on US101 (take Samoa Blvd exit, up and over the freeway, then left on G Street.) Nice trails through the marshlands or take H Street to drive right out to the bay front and enjoy a picnic sunset.

It's the history of Eureka in a few blocks. The Waterfront, Carson Mansion, boutique shops, good food! In the summer months there are farmers markets, music, street fairs, and the best small town 4th of July fireworks on the west coast.

A walk around the neighborhood
The neighborhood in which The Apartment is located includes many of Eureka's finest Victorian houses and was the area where many of the city's historic movers and shakers built their home. There are many fine, well-preserved properties within an easy walk: From Hillsdale Street (near E St and 13th St) with its row of finely painted Victorian beauties, to the yellow ribboned turret, duck pond and cypresses of the Zanone Estate (on G St near Wabash), the Henderson House (of Henderson Center fame, on 9th & J Sts), the Cornelius Daly House (on H between 11th and 12th), and many more.
