Priory church and ruins - the focal point for many visitor attractions when visiting the Wharfedale valley and only 20 minutes by car from the property.
Nearby are some excellent river views and challenging stepping stones when the river level is high! The is a great river walk from here to the Cavendish Pavillion (for refreshments) and the Strid - where the river roars through a narrow gorge and in earlier times were young men rumped across it!

Parking is usually available but the town is very busy on market days, so allow plenty of time. The walk behind the Castle is great and you can always stroll along the Leeds Liverpool canal and watch the barges come and go.

A great drive across Wharfedale and Nidderdale from your Ilkley base. Even better if you can cycle! You will travel through "God's Country" past truly spectacular moorland scenery, possibly passing close by to Menwith Hills (a UK and US communications and support site). Howe Stean Gorge is close by and the Cafe has a remarkable glass viewing section immediately above the gorge (definitely not for the fainthearted!)

Pateley Bridge
A great drive across Wharfedale and Nidderdale from your Ilkley base. Even better if you can cycle! You will travel through "God's Country" past truly spectacular moorland scenery, possibly passing close by to Menwith Hills (a UK and US communications and support site). Howe Stean Gorge is close by and the Cafe has a remarkable glass viewing section immediately above the gorge (definitely not for the fainthearted!)
Awesome falls right by the road and local surrounding walks to places like Castle Bolton.
Famous location used for the filming of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (Kevin Costner). This is a full day trip by car from Ilkley.

This is an amazing little village with a great pub (Red Lion), two tearooms with a traditional village green right next to the river.
The village green hosts many functions in the summer including the annual Burnsall Fell race.
We have spotted Kingfishers and heron just up the river and close to a favourite jumping spot from some high cliffs into a deep pool.
It is very close to Ilkley, about 25 minutes by car and 13.5 miles by bike.

This is an amazing little village with a great pub (Red Lion), two tearooms with a traditional village green right next to the river.
The village green hosts many functions in the summer including the annual Burnsall Fell race.
We have spotted Kingfishers and heron just up the river and close to a favourite jumping spot from some high cliffs into a deep pool.
