Neighbourhoods

Rottingdean is the local village which is a 10 minute walk away. It attracts visitors as it is a traditional, quaint English village with tea shops and flint fronted cottages. There is a Tesco’s Express shop there, a butchers, pharmacy, post office, greengrocers and several restaurants and pubs so there’s a lot of food options available. At the end of the high street, cross the road and you are on the seafront. There are more cafes and restaurants there and there is also a car park in front of Tesco’s.

Sightseeing

There are literally hundreds of restaurants and cafes catering for every type of food taste you can imagine. Brighton has great shopping with the North and South Laines providing an eclectic range of independent shops and arts and crafts. Brighton has two theatres and a great museum plus the Pavillion is an amazing place to visit. Indian architecture on the outside and brightly decorated Chinese design on the interior with a gigantic dragon chandelier inside. It’s really worth visiting. Brighton offers some amazing Sunday roasts and some of my favourites include Bison Beer (cauliflower cheese with truffle), Tel 01273-695358, 103 North Street, BN11YW, The Lion and Lobster, Tel 01273-327299, 24 Silwood Street, Brighton, BN12PS. The Sussex Yeoman 01273-327985, 7 Guildford Road, Brighton, BN13LU, and if your feeling like spending a little more, the Gingerman 01273-326688, 21a Norfolk Square, Brighton, BN12PD, do a stylish and delist Sunday roast. Nightlife and festivals for all ages, is year round with concerts at the Brighton Centre, The Dome plus nightclubs. Www.visitbrighton.co.uk gives useful listings of what’s going on. The ‘Brighton Festival’ has been going for many years now and starts on May 1st every year with the ‘children's Parade.’ This attracts tens of thousands of visitors as the parade is a visual spectacle. The festival lasts for all of May and covers every area of cultural and arts you can think of. There is the ‘Open Houses’ festival in the summer where local artists throw open their homes for visitors to enjoy their works of arts. Huge cinema screens on the beach show various events throughout the summer months. (Thelunacinema.com) and there are several arthouse cinemas (picturehouses.com). There is the ‘burning of the clocks’ lantern parade in December which marks the shortest day of the year with a festival of lanterns, bonfires and fireworks. Plus many other festivals and events.

One of the National Trusts flagship gardens. The colours of the trees and plants change year round and the lakes and grounds are well worth the half hour drive from the house to access.Theres also a restaurant for lunches and local pubs on the way. The Bluebell railway is very close by to the gardens as well, so both could be visited in a day.

Food scene

On a clear day or evening, you get a panoramic view of the coast. There are many pubs and restaurants on the seafront and the i360 has its own restaurant at the base. There are also live music venues all along the seafront by the i360, making it a popular venue for visitors enjoying a day out or an evening meal and drinks.

Access to Brighton City Centre

To get into Brighton City Centre: Turn left when you leave the house and follow the road to the end, past the curve in the road to the main road. Turn right and there is a bus stop 200 metres in front of you. The number 2 bus will take you into the City Centre. ‘Churchill Square’ is the very Centre of the City and this is a 5 minute walk along ‘Queens Road’ from Churchill Square to Brighton railway station. The number 2 bus goes twice and hour. Or Walk past the ‘No 2’ bus stop, and walk either left or right around the small one way system to the seafront. Cross the road and there are a couple of bus stops. Buses to the city centre go every few minutes. On the other side of the road (where Tesco’s is), there is a bus stop to Eastbourne, Seaford, Peacehaven etc.
