This is an off leash dog park, so be prepared to meet many canines and their people if you are interested in that.
There are also some nice short trails in the trees on the hillside of the park. If you are there at the right time of day you might hear an owl hoot or an eagle call.

Great hike or trail run along the Deschutes River. There are some places where there may be mosquitos, so bring the bug spray if that is your thing.

If you are going to the Old Mill for shopping, a concert at the Amphitheater, a movie or just to enjoy the scene on the river this might be the best parking. Rarely full, you can park and just walk down the stairs to be in the mix without driving into the main lots below.
