Sightseeing

Hiking into the Canyon. WARNING: Temperatures are a lot hotter once you head down, think Las Vegas in the summer....BRING WATER, LOTS of WATER A good day trip into the Canyon starts with the right trailhead. Inside the National Park there are two trailheads. South Kaibab and Bright Angel. All lead to the river but are completely different trips and trails along the way. Bright Angel is 9 miles round trip and is the most well traveled and is used by the Mules so it's nice and wide, but not any less steep. The National Park Service does not recommend going to the river and back in one day, 5-6 hours down and 6-8 back up is the norm. Indian Garden is far more suited to a day trip and is 4.5 miles down. Check out the 1st tunnel and the petroglyphs up high on the cliffside just as you pass thru the tunnel. Bring 1-3 litres of water per person. South Kaibab at 6.3 miles also gets you to the river and once again its 4-6 hours down and a day back however Ooh Aah point is a great day trip down and back and can be accomplished in a few hours. Keep in mind that South Kaibab is listed as the #2 hardest trail in America...
When heading East in the park towards Desert View on of the first pull offs is Duck on a Rock Viewpoint. You'll find it on the left. This is great example of the power or water and wind, the same thing that formed the Grand Canyon.

Walk Bike or Shuttle

We are so blessed to have a natural playground in our backyard and love to view the canyon as often as possible, we ride our ebikes into the park every week in the Spring, Summer and Fall. The Greenway trail leads to the main visitors center inside the park and mather point, it's a great walk or bike trip. The shuttle system runs from May to September with a few exceptions, including pandemics.... the closest stop is at the IMAX/GrandCanyonVisitorsCenter an easy walk where you can also get your park pass to ride the shuttle. The shuttle goes into the park and hubs at the main parking lot

Check the weather before you pack

Grand Canyon National Park sits at just under 7,000 ft above sea level with warm to hot summer days to just about zero during the winter, we do get snow frequently. During the summer we have monsoonal moisture that comes up from the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean in California, the storms bring high wind and lots of rain for a short period of time. Night time when the sun drops temperatures can get into the 50s Day times when the sun is high the temperatures can get into the low 90's, we rarely see 100. Most homes don't have A/C because the heat/cool cycle of the day makes it comfy.

"Must See" while in the area

While for some the Grand Canyon is a two hour experience for others it's a 2 week experience but when you're done with the Canyon and ready for more adventure there are several things to do while in the area. Bearizona located 45 miles south in Williams is great. Williams is also host to several western experiences. To the East of Flagstaff is the meteor crater, a huge splash. If you leave Flagstaff heading north on Hwy 89 you'll come across Sunset Craters National Park and is connected to Wupatki National Monument and then meets back with Hwy 89. GCNP East Entrance is in Cameron.

Airbnb vs Hotel

While the experience is somewhat the same when you book your home, the experience is wildly different at check-in. People expect the same experience that they will have at a major hotel and while some of the amenities are the same you have to keep in mind that this is someone's, not a large corporations house or condo. Amenities can be a contention, take into account wherever you are there are limits, you won't find a lot of pine trees in major cities and you may not find cable and internet in the mountains/plateaus. Walmart is a long way from here but so is congestion and smog...
