In an area where chain stores (Walgreens, Walmart, etc.) are non-existent, Nelsons it the next best thing. The variety of items they have is incredible. Of course they have hardware items but they also carry decorative and a few clothing items with Door County themes, kitchen/bath items, garden items, Packers items, health and beauty aids, and so much more.

All The Villages
On the Door Peninsula we have Villages. And they are all different. Each Village has its own feel and offerings. Visit them all!
The Village of Ephraim is a quaint, quiet town the has incredible views, plenty of water activities, a sweet little library, delicious food, a public beach and boat dock, safe sidewalks to walk on, and a general feel of that small one-horse town. We don't have stop lights and the speed limit is 25 mph. You will absolutely love it.

This is where nature happens. There isn't much happening in Ellison Bay but the nooks and cranny places you'll find here provide the most incredible views and places of solace.

Remember the Weather
The nights are cool. You'll want to bring a sweatshirt and a jacket. The days are very warm in July and August but the days are incredibly comfortable in June and September. We are cold again in October.

Bikes, Mopeds, Cars and Trolley
You will find people walking a lot in Northern Door County. Biking is very popular as well so feel free to bring yours. Mopeds are increasingly popular. There is a Trolley tour also that runs around the County.

Cook Your Own Food
Yes there are incredible restaurants in Door County but your cottage has a kitchen which is a huge money saver. Pack sandwiches, snacks and drinks. Make dinner at home or roast hot dogs over the fit pit. Save your money for delicious ice cream, a pontoon rental, the outdoor theater, plays and concerts, tours and shopping.

Remember the Weather
You Should Pack the Following:
1. Wind Breaker (you'll regret not having one) and a sweatshirt (ditto)
2. Rain jacket or disposable rain poncho. Don't let a sun shower wreck your day.
3. Sandals and closed toed shoes. It gets chilly at night so if you don't like to wear socks with sandals, bring some shoes.
4. Sunglasses and a hat. We are surrounded by water and the glare is intense.
5. We don't have laundry services on-site and there in only one laundry mat on the peninsula. Bring clothes that quick dry or that you can wash in the sink/tub and hang on the clothesline to quick dry.

Country Walk Laundry Mat is in Sister Bay, WI about 10 minutes up the road. It is the only laundry mat on the peninsula.
Cleverly hidden next to the Country Walk BP station.

A Fish Boil is a Must Do
You cannot leave your Door County vacation without experiencing a Door County Fish Boil. Locally caught whitefish are boiled on an open fire, in an outdoor community-style kitchen, usually in a large metal kettle. The first step is to add salt to the water and bring it to a boil. Next come the potatoes. Once the potatoes are cooked, onions are added (this step varies from boil to boil). The entire event wraps up with kerosene thrown onto the fire that causes a boil over which puts out the flames. And then it is TIME TO EAT!

We only have one pharmacy on the peninsula: Home Town Pharmacy at 10578 Country Walk Dr #27, Sister Bay, WI 54234. If you are traveling with children, it is very wise to bring any medications or emergency items that you think you might need. The closest Walgreens is in Sturgeon Bay which can be a long drive (45 minutes) to buy items for sick children.
