One of the best things to do on the Big Island is to watch the sunset from Mauna Kea. It's cold, but definitely worth it! You can even stay and stargaze as well if the moon isn't too bright. You do need a four wheel drive to get all the way to the summit.

This is one of the most beautiful places on the Big Island. I would suggest parking up top and walking down. You'll see other people driving down, but it's quite sketchy because it's such a steep descent. It's a steep and intense walk down and back up or you can just enjoy the beautiful view from the top.
