The food’s far better than the usual pub grub, and pleasingly avoids the seen-it-all-before US diner stuff. Instead, it ranges from Jersey oysters to more complex dishes such as courgette and butter-bean cassoulet or lamb’s liver with green sauce.

Our buzzing basement space has held many amazing parties, with negronis, spritz, southsides, americanos, prosecco and limoncello all served.
Upstairs, pizzas emerge from the oven speckled and charred. Cooked in less than a minute they can range from humble neapolitan classics such as a marinara or a margherita to Apollo creations using locally sourced vegetables and cheeses. We love Calabrian salami, prosciutto crudo, bresaola, rocket, san marzano tomatoes, zucchini, melanzane, white anchovies, baby capers, EV olive oil, olio piccante, guanciale (pork cheek), scamorza, St. Giles, stilton, chestnut mushrooms, fior di latte and basil - lots of it.
