Just 47 miles to Santa Barbara is a city from Oxnard which is on the central California coast, with the Santa Ynez Mountains as dramatic backdrop. Downtown, Mediterranean-style white stucco buildings with red-tile roofs reflect the city’s Spanish colonial heritage. Lining State Street are upscale boutiques and restaurants offering local wines and seasonal fare. On a nearby hill, Mission Santa Barbara, founded in 1786, houses Franciscan friars and a small museum.

Ventura Pier Beach in Ventura, California
The sandy beach at Ventura Pier is the main central beach of Ventura. The San Buenaventura City Pier is an old wooden structure on wooden pilings that attracts fishermen and tourists who visit the Ventura waterfront. The view from the beach and the pier looks out over Pierpont Bay toward the Channel Islands. If you come to this beach, at least plan on walking the pier and consider walking north on the paved Ventura Promenade pathway to Surfers Point Park. South of Ventura Pier is San Buenaventura State Beach which is also accessible via the Promenade. From downtown just head toward the ocean on California Street and you’ll get to the pier. For access to Ventura Pier Beach, there is a large parking structure next to the Crown Plaza Ventura Beach Hotel just off Harbor Boulevard. Another option is the northern parking lot for San Buenaventura State Beach which is right behind the beach (entrance is south of the pier). Restaurants are available on the pier and at the Crown Plaza Hotel. Bikes, beach chairs, and body boards are available for rent at the pier 7 days a week in summer and on weekends in the winter months.

The whole park has a sidewalk that runs circular around it, which is great to walk or ride a bike around. You can keep going with your bike and explore Oxnard Shores beaches to the north or Hollywood Beach to the south. There are bathrooms at the park. Of course, Depending on respect by others how well they are kept clean. If getting a jumper for kids, you will need to get a permit from the city. Have fun!
