Original home of our town's oldest brewery, Highland, Barley's has always been host to warm food, local music, and signature celtic brews. The food is great and there are dozens of regional beers on tap.
Every THURSDAY night Barley's is home to the Asheville jazz monument, Alien Music Club, founded by JP Perlman, author of Iconoclasm. Every Thursday you can find Asheville's finest jazz musicians gathering from 8pm to midnight. The 2nd set is open to the public for performing. Sign up during the 1st set with a song title and key.

Parks & Nature
Beaver Lake is home to one of my favorite spots, the little known Asheville Bird Sanctuary, managed by students from UNCA. With a boardwalk that guides you through the swamps by the lake to a lake shore path, a picnic lunch is pure heaven. This is more of a walking path than a hiking trail. For that, hit the Blue Ridge Parkway. My favorite spot is North to marker 419. Both are free!

The Arboretum is a beautiful getaway with paths among local flora and fauna, home to weddings, gatherings and seasonal festivals. There is a visitor's center and museum, as well as ample parking.

The Mothlight is a great sounding local venue with live music nightly. It is also within walking distance and features a lot of local talent. On weekends you may also find craft markets on the dance floor. During the rain and winter months The Mothlight houses our neighborhood Farmer's Market, which otherwise takes place on Tuesdays in the parking lot across the street.
