The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History is one of my all-time favorite places in DC because it offers exhibits that are really interesting and exciting. If you are intrigued by the mysteries of the Hope Diamond, mummification, and ancient fossils this attraction is sure to bring out the hidden archeologist, paleontologist, and kid at heart in you. :-). Please be advised that the Fossil exhibit is currently closed due to renovation and scheduled to re-open in 2019. All of the other areas are open. Enjoy.

If you love water, the beauty of the Cherry Blossoms and Thomas Jefferson as much as I do you will truly appreciate the Tidal Basin. Rent a paddle boat and enjoy the scenic, delicate pink blossoms as they caress the basin adjacent to the awesome, majestic Thomas Jefferson Memorial during the Spring. It is the most fun you will have sightseeing in the water. :-). On land, the intoxicating ebb and flow of your walk around the tidal basin through the Cherry Blossoms will eventually lead to the stately and regal vision of the Martin Luther King Memorial and the World War II Memorial near West Potomac Park and Independence Street SW.

As recent as the 1990s Washington was once affectionately referred to as " Chocolate City", due to the largely progressive, talented, and entrepreneurial African American middle class and elite in the area. To truly understand the savvy diversity of Washington, DC and its unique cultural make-up you must first visit George Washington's Mount Vernon Plantation. At the time, many slaves escaped grave physical, emotional, and abusive conditions in Virginia into Georgetown and other downtown areas of Washington, DC to contribute productively to society as American free men, women, and children.

When it comes to fine dining in Washington there is so much to offer. However for a fantastic breakfast croissant or two, another great cup of coffee, and high tea, look no further than the Decanter Restaurant at the St. Regis Hotel. A great majority, if not all bakery products and chocolate truffles are made fresh daily on-site. The food , restaurant staff, and service are exceptional as their team members are very customer service oriented. This venue will appeal to your cravings for some charming old world rituals.

All three restaurants are conveniently located in Penn Quarter walking distance from "Gallery Place Chinatown" metro station and the Verizon Center. The drinks, appetizers and short ribs at Rosa Mexicano are sure to put a smile on your face. The hummus and lamb at Zatinya are succulent, well seasoned and just amazing! :-) As for Jaleo, all of the tapas and Sangria are a must while in town for lunch or happy hour.
