Kilovolt is a great local coffee shop with pastries, bagels, and open face toast. The vibe is very hip and service can be slow but it's worth the wait.
Kilovolt Coffee is about 10 minute walk from the house. When you're leaving the house, walk right on Chestnut, left on 16th, turn left once you get to Mandela and Kilovolt will be on the left up half a block.

This is a great brunch spot with delicious Southern Comfort food. Think Chicken and Waffles, grits, biscuits and gravy. The wait is always crazy long but super worth it.

The food is pretty good but the reason you come here is the view. This restaurant sits right on Lake Merritt. The outdoor area is closed during the rainy season but they still have a gorgeous bar you can sit at and look out at the view.

Fun bar with amazing Grey Hounds, the unofficial drink of Oakland. They have live music some nights of the weeks and an eclectic collection of decorations that line the walls in this quirky bar.

Parks & Nature
This is a beautiful area with tons of people out jogging and picnicking on the weekends. There's a lot of different restaurants sprinkled around and especially a lot of restaurants at the North Eastern corner in an area called Lakeshore.
There is a farmer's market on Saturdays. Also, you can rent a paddles boats, peddle boats, and kayaks at the Boating Center.
