Duomo is the cathedral church of Milan, Lombardy, Italy. Dedicated to St Mary of the Nativity, it is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan, currently Archbishop Mario Delpini. Construction began in 1386 and took nearly six centuries to complete. It is the largest church in Italy (the larger St. Peter's Basilica is in the State of Vatican City) and the third largest in the world. This is of course a must see. You can easily take the Metro. Just get on at the Rovereto stop on Vialle Monza near my apartment and get off at Duomo the 7th stop.

Later renovated and enlarged, in the 16th and 17th centuries it was one of the largest citadels in Europe. Extensively rebuilt by Luca Beltrami in 1891–1905, it now houses several of the city's museums and art collections. Transportation from my apartment is very simple. Just walk to the right when exiting the building and continue on to the Tram #1 Greco stop. This is the final stop on #1 and you can take it to the castle viewing the city as you go. This is definitely an important site on your list of things to see.

Getting Around
From this metro stop you can access all parts of Milano. The stop is only a couple of minutes from my apartment. From the front building entrance just turn left and left again at Viale Monza.

Tram #1 Greco stop. This is the tram's last stop and only a couple of minutes from my apartment. Just turn right after exiting the building. The walk is only about 2 minutes. Sometimes you can see the tram parked there on the street waiting for you. This tram will take you through the city to all the popular tourist areas including Duomo and the Sforzesco Castle.

Just a minute's walk from my apartment is this convenient grocery store. Just turn right when exiting the building and then left at the first intersection. You will see it across the street.

This is a larger grocery store with a deli and bakery goods. Just exit the building as you would for Carrefour. Continue walking past Piazza Morbegno for about a block. You can't miss it. Currently under renovation by new owner Conad.
