Hiking, skiing, snowboarding, sight-seeing and lunch! The Peaks are lovely any time of year - during summer you can take the ski lift up the mountain, hike around and enjoy the awesome views in every direction. Fall aspen colors abound in this area in October - you can go up the SnowBowl Road, take the Hart Prairie Road drive, go up to Lockett Meadown, or just drive the dirt road that follows along the north side of the Peaks for spectacular views. For hiking trails information, contact the Coconino National Forest. Beautiful and iconic - you've seen it in magazines and tourist information. Flagstaff is at the north end of the Canyon (a drive through the pines from the Canyon) and Sedona is at the south end. Hiking, campgrounds, day use and playing in the Creek are all available. Slide Rock State Park offers picnicing and water play at Slide Rock for a fee. Or just drive through the Canyon and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There are cabins for rent and restaurants at the lower end of the Canyon, and Native American vendors set up at the Overlook at the top of the Canyon selling quality Native American art.

If you come to Flagstaff, then you MUST go to the Grand Canyon. You can get to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon by going to Williams, AZ (west of Flagstaff on I-40) and then north on Hwy 64; going northwest on Hwy 180 out of Flagstaff through the pines and then turning north on Hwy 64 at Valle . Another, less travelled route to the South Rim is to take Hwy 89 north out of Flagstaff to Cameron, then turn west on Hwy 64 to the east entrance to the Grand Canyon. This route will take you passed the Little Colorado River Gorge on the Navajo Reservation and, then up to and along the edge of the Canyon before you get to Grand Canyon Village.

The North Rim of the Grand Cayon is lovely, but a ways to travel. To get there, go north out of Flagstaff on Hwy 89 to Jacob Lake. Follow the signs to travel south to the North Rim. This side of the Canyon is approximately 1000 feet higher in elevation than the South Rim, and has spruce and fir trees and cooler climates. Camping and lodging, as well as restaurants are available. The North Rim is not as well visited as the South Rim, so it is less crowded here. The North Rim is closed during the winter months, beginning October 15.
