Great restaurants, tasting rooms, and shops. Nics, Crema, Bocce, 3 Kings, Merkin Oysteria ( owned by Mayard Keenan- Tool Front man)Tavern Grill, Poquito Loco are favorites. Bar Strata and State Bar are favorites. Coming soon on the hill above Old Town is another Maynard Keenen project in the form of a 13 million dollar winery and restaurant.

Caduceus is Maynard Keenan's (Rock Band Tool) more expensive label. His wines consistently win awards. My French cousin and his friends were impressed with a bottle of Naga. Pricey for most. Merkin Oysteria in Old Town has the lower tier Merkin wines and phenomenal pasta from one of the best local chefs, Chris Smith. Maynard is building a new winery and restaurant on the hill above Old Town. The hill will be covered in terraced vines and will include a people mover to connect it to Old Town.

The last hospital built when the mines were operational. One person died every day on average in that era, lending the "ghost city" reputation for this incredibly unique town. The decor is reminiscent of the movie "The Shining". The most expensive suite was the operating room. Check out the old lift and switchboard in the lobby. Lots of stories of the building being haunted. They discourage joyrides on the old elevator, but I always take visitors down from the restaurant level without issue. The Asylum is the hotel restaurant and has great food. Incredible views, particularly summer sunsets. Also, the bar makes an awesome Bloody Mary.

Access the river from the apt- Enter the vineyard by the front entrance to the property (next to the "vineyard shack"), walk away from the house then follow the outer edge of the vineyard to the north fence adjacent to the open area (State Parks land). Go through the gate and follow the path. Turn left at the fork. You will pass the "mother tree" on the left. It's gigantic and over 400 years old from what we understand. You will see the river to your right and cross over a very small tributary. The path will lead you to a small open clearing with a swing. The "beach head" is to your right. To continue on the path, continue walking past the tree with the swing and "no trespassing sign". You will need to get across the small stream to the path continuation on the opposite side. The path will lead to a clearing that runs adjacent to pastures. Take the first path to the right to a secluded area with a small dock. Good for chilling or fishing (although any point that suits your fancy works). The path continues for several miles without any obstruction. However, wild grass growth during the early winter months and summer irrigation may make some segments interesting. Most of the year its smooth sailing. I routinely jog this route with our dog Jax off lead. Rare that you will see another person on the trail. The Verde is a very safe river unless there has been a recent storm (very dangerous). The river expands and contracts dramatically which is why no homes are close to the river. Makes for peaceful strolls and jogs. We have seen Bald Eagle, Black Hawks, countless owls, Red Tail hawks, colorful migratory birds, river otter, beaver, white tail deer, skunks (let them know you're there and they will scurry away), fox, coyote, only our son has seen a rattle snake in 5 years. I've seen a few adult King Snakes. There really no "deal breakers" on the Verde like mosquitos, leeches, venomous snakes. The river is generally slow moving with what I call "technical areas"- tight passages with some non-threatening "rapids" to keep things interesting. Many prefer inflatable kayaks or paddle boards (without the fin or one that retracts). We have both. Flat kayaks are ideal for those not familiar with kayaking as you don't have to pull it to the side and drain it if you take on water. The Verde has bass ,trout, carp and other fish in it. If you go to the beachhead at sunset you generally wont have to wait long to see a fish jump out of the water. Lastly, Native Americans inhabited areas near the Verde for centuries to include most of the small mesas nearby (e.g. Toozigoot). The hill across the river slightly to the South (right) was occupied hundreds of years ago. It is not marked in any way but can be accessed from Rocking Chair Road. You will find remnants on the east side toward the top and fragments of modest pottery. Please be respectful of the site.

Our vineyard has been a work in progress since 2017. The soils in the Verde Valley and temp swing between high and low produce fantastic wines that win awards (even in CA). Our site is challenging due to the very cool temps in the winter months. All but the two rows on the North side are Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance being Petit Verdot. We have 25 two-year old Riesling vines around the house. Fun fact, I generally prefer beer over wine but I do enjoy vino. Nesa doesn't really care for either! The shipping container structure you see in the vineyard is will be used as an optional meeting space for our LLC. We primarily specialize in team building, leadership and strategic planning facilitation. This site-based option allows us to pair professional development with our beautiful natural surroundings to maximize the experience. Go to headspaceteambuilding.com if you're interested in learning more. The W Down Cattle ranch to the south was established by the same family that still occupies it circa 1920 to support the miners. The open land directly north belongs to AZ State Parks, though there is no public access to it. The river can be accessed through this parcel.

Cottonwood is a relaxed and unpretentious small city that serves as a tourist and economic hub. Surrounded by natural beauty Cottonwood was originally established in the late 1800's to support the mining industry primarily via agriculture. Over the last 20 years, Cottonwood has gained notoriety for the blossoming AZ wine industry due to its climate and ideal soils. The City's brand is "Heart of Arizona Wine Country". Though most wine grapes in the state are gown in the Wilcox-Sonoita area, the Cottonwood region is responsible for over 80% of the AZ wine industry's economic impact within the state. The industry and influence of people like Tool singer and wine-maker Maynard Keenan continue to positively influence the City's reputation and growth. Keenan is currently building a 13 million dollar restaurant and winery above Old Town complete with a people mover to connect with Old Town and terraced vineyard.

Clarkdale was established by the mining company and was home to workers and management. Small but historically significant. If you notice, most of the houses are built from the same blueprint. Smelter town Brewery, Violette's and the AZ Copper Mine are great choices. During the spring and summer look for free concerts and festivals in the park. Great small town feel.

My personal favorite in Sedona. A little climbing involved here so not for everyone. I don't take my dog on this hike. When you get to the top, you can see both directions. Most take photos at that point. Take the small trail to the left, climb up the slope and sit in the Vortex as they are known. Most visitors will miss it...Parking is challenging here. There is parking off of 179 as well with a trail from the east side.
Another of my personal favorite hikes. Causal hike in then up you go. Sketchy for pets near the end but I do take our dog on this one. The line to take photos on the bridge can take an hour when busy so plan ahead if that's something you're interested in. If not, you can see the bridge and turn around no problem. If you want to continue hiking from the bridge, there are trails that you can take up the hill or past the bridge if you look for them.

Smell the pines. Woodchute trail runs along Mingus Mountain ridgeline about 10 minutes west of Jerome. Just past the Mingus summit rest area, turn right on Forest 104. Go left at the Y. You'll slowly make your way through campground area to the trailhead. About a mile into the hike look for a toe path that leads to an alligator pine at the base of a small hill to it's left (north). Take that trail. The views at the top of this hill are fantastic. Along the way, Prescott Valley can be seen on the other side of the mountain.

Beautiful bridge and hiking trails. Parking is limited so plan accordingly. Most will take the trail to the left that runs parallel to oak creek. If you're looking for a hike uphill with phenomenal views, walk to the right (west) past the restroom and Ramada. Look for the trailhead on your right.

Jail trial is a quick escape to nature if you're in Old Town Cottonwood. The trail winds around to the Verde River. The trailhead rests by the old stone building (once a jail) across from Bocce's Bar Strata.

A very unique and expansive collection of boutique shops in Sedona. Very popular during peak tourist season so plan accordingly.
