Food scene
There are literally dozens of restaurants and bars in walking distance and a few that you may wish to drive to from our cottage. I am therefor restricting my listings to those close by. So as not to repeat myself, many of these places get quite crowded, which is a great sign and proof of their quality. It does mean, however, that you may wish to call ahead and/or make a reservation.
Incredibly fresh ingredients, serves sushi and Thai specialities. Quite yummy!

1955 S Hilbert StThis is an incredibly awesome place to be in the spring-summer-fall, as it is largely an outdoor scene on the Kinnickinnic River. It has docks and pleasure boats on site, and for us, it is a go-to place for a drink and burger, or whatever. Just a lot of fun.
Excellent and reasonably priced Indian food, in a really nice setting. In warmer weather they have a great outdoor seating venue as well. They also do a huge carryout and delivery, so if that's what you want, they've got it.

This is a super favorite of ours, a family-run Serbian bar and restaurant which has been around for, I think, 70 years. The food is unusual, the real thing, made to order. This is an extremely unpretentious neighborhood tavern atmosphere with folks from all over the city. You definitely need a reservation and cash - no plastic! Walking distance from our house.

This is a lovely little place tucked into the Avalon Theatre on Kinnickinnic Ave. Cozy, intimate, full bar and good food, great service.

This is one of a kind, been around forever type of bar. It serves many dessert type drinks, as well as wine and others. Recently remodeled, but with its old ambience, this place pulls people in from all over town. One block from our house!

Neighborhoods
Bay View is the best neighborhood in town, for me. It is a mixed bag of artisans, working folks, artists, professionals of different stripes, alternative health practitioners, etc. And, it is on the lake! Lake Michigan, that is. Always beautiful.

This is a very cool part of the downtown area. Lots of bars and restaurants, the Milwaukee Public Market is great, West Elm and many other fun and one-of-a-kind shops for clothing, decor, etc. Tory Folliard Gallery, to name but one of many galleries, home furnishings, easy to walk around, and particularly nice - again in the warm months - to visit the River Walk along the Milwaukee River.
