Fredericksburg is a charming Hill Country town just an hour drive from our lake house, where you can enjoy shopping, sightseeing, fine dining, and fantastic art galleries. On the drive from Horseshoe Bay to Fredericksburg, you will drive through the Texas Wine Country. Enjoy the gorgeous views, and stop in and visit one of the wineries along the way. You will also drive by Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. This is a fun family stop where you can visit the ranch where Lyndon B. Johnson grew up, and continued to to live throughout his life. You will see the LBJ Ranch, Texas White House, family cemetery, the old Junction School. You can pick up a map at the Visitor Center and drive through the Ranch on your own, stopping if you choose, to go inside any of the buildings on the Ranch. When you get to Fredericksburg, you will find a charming, historical town center filled with unique shops, restaurants, art galleries and more. There are also some great museums for the history buffs. Our favorite is the National Museum of the Pacific War, which is located in Fredericksburg because Chester W, Nimitz, who commanded the United States Pacific Fleet in World War II, hails from Fredericksburg, Texas!
