A daytrip to Cobh is always a lovely adventure. You can see Cobh Cathedral from the house and a short drive and fun ferry get you there quite quickly. Cobh is full of colour and history, including the Titanic museum, boat trips to Spike Island (Cork's mini historic Alcatraz!) and the impressive Cobh Cathedral. Cobh was the Titanic's last stop before it set sail across the Atlantic and the town regularly receives other modern-day large liners, which can be viewed up close, from the piers! 40 mins drive from Crosshaven along a scenic coastal route, with a small ferry trip across the bay, to keep it interesting!

Spike Island (Cork's Alcatraz!) is just off Cobh and is a great half-day trip. Ferries run regulary from Cobh town centre (book in advance on-line to avoid queues!) and the guides on the island give some fantastic history into the fort's historic past, rebel/republican prison use and modern day vistas https://spikeislandcork.ie/

One of the best known towns in Cork and home to Blarney Castle and gardens where you can kiss the famous Blarney Stone and have the "gift of the gab" for the rest of your life! The Blarney Woolen mills are world-famous and of Ireland's biggest craft shops, with tax-free and authentic Irish woolen products. 45 mins drive from Crosshaven (depending on traffic) and you could easily spend a half-day there!

Fota Wildlife Park is a 70 acre wildlife reserve, home to 50 bird species and 30 mammals. What distinguishes it from other parks is the fact that many of the animals roam free and interact with visitors (in a safe way). You can get up close to squirrels, giraffes, zebras and other herbivores. Kids absolutely love it, in my experience. 35 minutes drive from Crosshaven. Best to book tickets online to avoid the ticket queue and understand the opening hours: https://www.fotawildlife.ie/opening-times-prices You could spend a whole day there. The park is massive and really interesting and Fota (historic) house and gardens is also well worth a tour. The Fota Island Hotel and Spa is world-class, apparently. I haven't been myself but it always gets positive reviews

Kinsale is a perfect day trip and has something for every-one It's a coastal town - about twice as big as crosshaven, in terms of houses but people in Crosshaven say it has only half the number of boats (!) At one stage it was consider the food capital of Ireland. Excellent seafood at reasonable price in the Fishy Fishy cafe, epic breakfasts in the Lemon Leaf Cafe, and great buzz and music in pubs like the White House, the Folkhouse etc. Charles Fort is an old historic fort, which is one of the best preserved in Ireland and worth a trip. But most of all, people like to just visit Kinsale, walk around, buy souvenirs, have some ice-cream, chill out and soak it up. That's what Kinsale is best for... take it easy... don't rush too much!

According to Rick Stein, it's the best covered market in the UK and Ireland. Right in the heart of Cork City Centre -so a bus ride from Crosshaven or 30 mins drive I am not a foodie myself, so I don't quite understand the popularity of this one but people love it. They have a huge range of fresh fish, meat, olives, coffee and other local produce. The Queen of England visited it when she was in Cork (that's when I realised I need to be more of a foodie). I don't think I can represent this very popular tourist site myself very well, so do check out the website and definitely drop in to see it, if you're already in Cork City Centre - it's a "must see" if you come to Cork... apparently! http://www.englishmarket.ie/

Enjoy a tour and whiskey tasting at the home of Jameson Whiskey in Midleton, Cork. Need I say more? Check out the website here: https://www.jamesonwhiskey.com/en-US/visit-us/jameson-distillery-midleton It's highly recommended. I know a few people who have repeat visited! 40 mins drive from Crosshaven, depending on traffic

Historic Places
A very unique and quirky museum, located right in the heart of Cork's cultural quarter, the Butter Museum tells the story of Ireland’s most important food export (butter!) and the world’s largest butter market They have a butter wrapper collection.... how nerdy is that?! (in a cool way) I challenge you to visit this place and not look at butter differently afterwards :) They have slightly strange opening hours and no parking so do check out the opening hours http://thebuttermuseum.com/butter-wrappers And I'd recommend parking in the local Q-park on Carroll's Quay
