Local tip - Delicious street food!
Are you interested in trying out some typical Bari appetizers? Do you feel like a real barese? Well, here is a (short) list of something special!
For something sweet, go to Pasticceria MARTINUCCI in the biggest square of Bari Vecchia. It is the most famous pastry shop in the old city and there I recommend to try a little cream pastry called "Pasticciotto Pugliese". My favourite one is "Pasticciotto alla crema"...mmhmhmhmmm....

They are known in town for their thin focaccia, to taste enjoying a walk toward the Castle :-)

This bakehouse in the old town (just behind St. Nicholas church) is so old that it's located in an ancient church! Their focaccia is famous to be slightly toasted and with a high edge...trust me, it's worth it!
Another must for a real gastronomic tour in Bari is the "Panzerotto", a half moon shaped fried yeast dough, stuffed with various ingredients. Don't miss the ones of EL FOCACCIARO: among brioche bread, mini croquettes of potatoes, arancini and - obviously - focaccia, I recommend to try their "Panzerotti with meat and onion". Enjoy it on the promenade just a few steps on the wall, overlooking the sea ;-)

If you choose the right time you will avoid the queue and you can enjoy it just a few steps on the wall, overlooking the sea ;-)
