In its hey day, during Victorian times, this was a world reknowned exhibition centre made almost entirely of glass, a new technology at the time, and the brainchild of Queen Victoria's Consort, Prince Albert. It burnt down under suspicious circumstances and the museum tells the story. The grounds are magnificent and represent the first real exhibition of life-size dinosaurs which can be seen in the lake and surrounding areas.

This quirky museum in the Arts & Crafts style is a fascinating and family friendly, popular local attraction. Amazing artifacts, nature walks, aquarium and lovely grounds.

A huge park with many different types of activity going on including boating lake and excellent children's park. The famous dinosaurs are here as is a garden maze. Great for skating, scootering, ball games and lovely long walks for people of all ages. Often live music and country fayres, check their website!

Outstanding Medieval castle where many famous historic characters were imprisoned and many beheaded. Abounds with iconic sights and stories and the atmosphere is incredible. You can see Traitor's Gate from the south bank of the river and realise how terrifying it must have been to be taken there.

Brixton Market is an award-winning collection of small traders with unique restaurants and products. Brixton is famous for the settlement of Black immigrants and the atmosphere in and around Brixton Market reflects the sounds and smells of Jamaica and many African nations as well as a great variety of food from all parts of the world. Plenty of clubs here, two community cinemas, the famous Brixton Fridge music venue, an O2 music venue and plenty of independent eateries.

Plenty of good restaurants for every taste and every budget, check out TripAdvisor recommendations. We like Joanna's for special occasions. Some great pubs, often with live music. There are clubs in the area but I have not been to any.
