On the first Friday of the month after 5 pm-9 pm, streets between W Grand Street and 27th Street on Telegraph Ave close and food trucks, entertainment and local arts and crafts booths set-up shop. This attracts a lot of people. It can be overwhelming, but you can take smaller streets like 25 th street off Telegraph and go to a smaller art gallery, it may be more relaxing.

Essentials
This is a big grocery store (slightly more expensive than other store, but somewhat better quality) in the center of Oakland, walking distance to Lake Merritt. It is about 10 minute drive from our house. I get basics here when I don't have time to go to Berkeley Bowl or the Farmer's Market.
