A .3 mile loop perfect for a morning walk and suitable for small children. Step outside our front door and cross the street to a path that leads across the creek. This path leads to the old Appalachian Trail (red blazes). If you take a left on the old AT and walk for 10 minutes or so you’ll come to the Shamokin Springs Nature Preserve Loop sign (yellow blazes) on your left. The nature trail is an easy wooded loop that crosses over small bridges back and forth over Stony Creek.

Shamokin Springs Nature Preserve

The Falls is on the Wintergreen Resort property and is a really nice but more challenging and rocky hike from this access point (not recommended for very young children). Shamokin Falls is one of the most popular spots on Wintergreen so it can get crowded during peak hiking times. There is also an easier way to access it by parking and then hiking less than a mile to reach. This is perfect for a morning hike before hitting the breweries or orchards in the afternoon.

It's a short walk from the cabin to a trailhead for Shamokin Falls. The Falls is on the Wintergreen Resort property and is a really nice but more challenging and rocky hike from this access point (not recommended for very young children). A favorite go-to restaurant and hang out, right at the base of the mountain (approximately 18 minutes from the cabin). They can get busy so you may need a reservation. They have an outdoor bar, firepits, cornhole, stage for live shows, etc. If you are not a beer drinker, the Orange Smash is like an Orange Crush for adults. Lots of room for kids to run around outside. Sit down eating is often restricted to inside, with drinks and cocktails outdoors.

You can bring a picnic to the wine tasting area during the day, or have an upscale dinner at The Farmhouse at Veritas (no kids, reservations required). They usually have charcuterie boards large enough for an outdoor lunch on the picnic tables.
A favorite lunch stop while exploring the 151 area, with a larger menu than most and really good burgers and sandwiches. They have indoor and outdoor seating, but outside is way better!

This is the pool we recommend; it's a heated pool right on top of the mountain and just about a mile or so from the cabin. The pool pass is the house manual at the cabin and guests can use it for free from 2 pm - 6 pm every day.

If it's not too hot, this is such a nice place to pick berries and get local produce, jam and honey. It's right across the road from Blue Mountain Brewery so you can combine the trip. And make sure to get some ice cream before you leave, we especially love the strawberry!
