A lovely family day out. Get the steam train from Kingswear which is across the river. It's a lovely train journey. Plenty to do for all the family including a lake with supersized floats in there. A good old fashioned day out.

A lovely beach just a 10 minute drive from Dartmouth. Shell beach and no dogs allowed but a lovely drive out to a breathtaking view. There's a very nice cafe there too.

Around a 20 minute drive from Dartmouth, Torcross is a wonderful village. The place is so quaint and for historians this is the place where they practised the D-Day Landings. There's a memorial there. Some nice places to eat too, right on the front where you can eat whilst taking in breathtaking views.

This is lovely quirky pub where the outside seating is in tiers overlooking the most wonderful bay. On a sunny day you'd think you were in Italy or Majorca. Worth the drive, around 45 minutes drive

If you want to see Dartmouth from the river, this is great, particularly for a private group. Taking up to 12 guests you can choose from a variety of menus. On a sunny day, it's wonderful.

Must do pubs
Recently under new ownership and fully renovated (2023), the Steam Packet Inn is a lovely cosy pub for winter or summer. The staff are very welcoming and the pizzas superb. A new outdoor terrace is due to be completed by May 2023 and a full restaurant menu should be up and running by then too.

They serve a cheaper fixed price lunchtime menu which is good value, but if you want to really treat yourself, then dinner is lovely here.
The Harbour House Hotel sits in a wonderful spot overlooking Salcombe harbour. Sunday lunch is excellent here and the outside area is great during summer too. Great varied menu.
