Topkapı Palace (Topkapı Sarayı) is the subject of more colourful stories than most of the world's museums put together. Libidinous sultans, ambitious courtiers, beautiful concubines and scheming eunuchs lived and worked here between the 15th and 19th centuries when it was the court of the Ottoman empire. A visit to the palace's opulent pavilions, jewel-filled Treasury and sprawling Harem gives a fascinating glimpse into their lives. You can visit from 10 am to 4 pm. It is closed on Tuesdays.

The Süleymaniye, known as 'the Magnificent', crowns one of İstanbul's seven hills and dominates the Golden Horn, providing a landmark for the entire city. Though it's not the largest of the Ottoman mosques, it is certainly one of the grandest and most beautiful. It's also unusual in that many of its original külliye (mosque complex) buildings have been retained and sympathetically adapted for reuse.

Save Money with an Istanbulkart

With an Istanbulkart, you’ll pay maximum 8TL for the ride and you can use it for all public transportations (Metro, Tramway, Bus, Boat ...). You can purchase an Istanbulkart at all metro stations or from the airport. You can also buy it at newspaper kiosks, though the cost is slightly higher. At metro station machines, the initial investment is 100TL. 35 TL is for the cost of the card, leaving you with 15TL initial credit. You can then top it up as you wish, though 32TL per person should be a good start since any unused amount at the end of your trip is non-refundable.
