Rock City is a short walk from your apartment, and our now deceased beagle, Nibbs, used to escape there often to mingle with visitors who come from all over the country to see the breathtaking views and roam the incredible rock formations. Well worth the price of admission. During Covid an advance reservation is required.

If you like caves, you will love Ruby Falls. The tour can be a little campy, but fun all the same. Good on a rainy day. For the adventurous there is a ropes course. Also after your visit you can access the upper Guild trail (see separate entrance). Reservations required during Covid.

A funicular rail line that is over 125 years old. You can ride the line in either direction - up or down the mountain. Take the train down to the historic St. Elmo neighbor where there are unique shops and restaurants.

A bit of a drive (about 25 minutes) traveling south along the top of Lookout Mountain, but we have never had a bad meal. Expensive, but worth it. Casual setting. Bring your own wine and wine opener. Reservations recommended.

The land trust is about 10 minutes away. It has a variety of trails and two spectacular water falls. Beautiful in every season. This park is open the first and last weekends of the month. It is very popular so get there early. Capacity is limited.
